Life of a VA featuring Jillian Jones of Jillian & Co

This Is May!

I have been graciously asked to share my journey of becoming a self-employed virtual assistant & business owner in a matter of a few short months…. Ladies, its story time, grab your tea or coffee & a biscuit or 2.

Hello, I am Jillian from @jillian.and.co

I am a mother of 2 men & a minion to my french bulldog. I love coffee, heavy metal & live in a regional town on the border of QLD & NSW. I love my family, a little too much sometimes, I am that crazy Aunty who you call to bury the evidence before your mum comes home & I am always up for a road trip. I will most defiantly be the one person that will say yes when asked before you finish the question. Oh, but if you come to my house BYOT (Bring your own Tea) yuck!

My last life event made me reassess my whole life. I was broken, broke & alone apart from my 16-year-old son, I was only working 30 hours a week and setting up my life again! That was June 2020.

Now this may sound familiar to...

Life of a VA featuring Emma Bennett of Bush Telegraph Assist

Uncategorized Mar 28, 2021

Hi, I am Emma. Wife and Muma to 3 bush kids.

I grew up and lived in a small town on the south-east coast of England. But chose to move to Australia as an adult in 2006 and have never looked back.

I spent over 15 years working for other people, balancing their demands with my values. I worked my way up, starting in Real Estate and ending my full-time career leading a team of remote account managers in leasing and finance.

Ending my career came as a bit of a shock to me. 2014, I was a new mum. I took a year off with my daughter when the time was right, spoke to my employer about returning to work. The problem was their needs no longer balanced with mine. I didn't want to travel or work full time. The head office was in Sydney, so most part-time jobs were not available in WA, so I took a part-time role in a different division. But I became invisible, working remotely, doing a full-time job in part-time hours because the role didn't fit the brief. But I only had to put up with it for a...

What’s a Virtual Assistant?
Well, it could be YOU!

Put in the simplest form - A virtual assistant is anyone who offers services to other business owners from a remote location (usually a home office) in exchange for an agreed upon fee.

See I told you it could be you!

Who can become one?
Virtually anyone (pun intended)

But there are a few skills you do need:

Obviously, if you’re planning to work online, a general understanding of all-things-internet is a good place to start. Having some specific skills and experience will make getting started easier and it’ll definitely help with landing the first few clients.
Your experience could include any variety of business activities — both online and offline. At the same time, it’s important to note that a lack of skills should never be a deterrent. A high degree of motivation, good communication skills and a desire to learn are equally, if not more important.

Life of a VA featuring Ulani Lawton of Tropical Admin

Uncategorized Jan 25, 2021

Hiya!

I’m Ulani, a twenty-something from beautiful Far North Queensland. Here’s the story of my VA journey.

If you saw me you wouldn’t think it, but I have a background in construction. For 4 years I was the manager of a small family business that trained people from all over Australia in rigging, civil work and machine operations.

This job allowed me to gain skills not only in operating huge machinery, learning to construct buildings, flying foxes and abseiling systems, but also in managing the entire back end of a business. I learned how to deal with different customers, develop systems and processes, deal with auditing processes and a whole range of other things before I’d even turned 18!

This but with all of the skills I had and responsibility I had within the business, the less time I had. I was essentially on call because shift workers would need to book in courses and only had time to ring me at night. I was the only one who knew how to...

From Single Mum to Boss Mumma

Hi everyone! I’m Leah and I am so honoured I get to share with you all my journey of becoming a Virtual Assistant. A quick snapshot about me - I am a single mum to a beautiful young man. I love cheese, red wine and a good book.

So how did it all start.

Well it all started back… Don’t worry I won’t go too far back!

In 2018 I had started looking into the idea of becoming a Virtual Assistant. I was unhappy in my workplace. I loved what I did but I didn’t love the people I was surrounded by. Unfortunately there wasn’t another opportunity like it close to home.

At the time I was very anxious and nervous about taking a step like that and eventually talked myself out of it. Self sabotage is a real buzz kill.

As fate would have it our entire team was made redundant as they were moving our office to Head Office in Brisbane. So there was my escape and yet I was still too scared to go out on my own.

5 reasons you need a CRM to up-level your VA business - Blog Post 5: Auto Generated Emails

Uncategorized Dec 11, 2020

Welcome to the last of  5 blog posts we deep dive into the reasons WHY you need a CRM to up-level your VA business!

If you've missed previous blog posts in this series you can read them here

In today's blog we are covering auto generated emails.

The 3 types of emails you should automated with your CRM

1. Welcome Emails

Welcome emails are meant for new subscribers which could have been sourced from a lead magnet, contact form or they've asked you to add them to your mailing list (you may run various welcome email sequences relevant to how the contact has ended up on your list)

Studies suggest that welcome emails can substantially increase ROI as they are believed to be viewed three times more than subsequent promotional emails.

Remember back to our previous blog post around creating sales funnels & lead capture forms? Your welcome email sequence is the next step which helps introduce your brand & services, prepares your prospects and leads...

In our previous blog post we talked about automated sales funnel & lead capture & contact forms are a feature that you will use to automate your sales funnel.

What is a lead?

Leads are the lifeblood of any business no matter how big or small. Leads are potential customers who have shown an interest in your solution but haven’t made a purchase yet.

How do you capture leads?

A contact form on your website where your prospective client could email you a question, enquire about your services or request an appointment.

A lead capture form...

If you missed previous blog posts - head back here to read

First things first: What is a sales funnel?

This is the mapping of the client journey from when a client first becomes aware of your business right through to when they becoming a client or customer

There are 4 main stages to a sales funnel & depending on the type of service or product you offer in your business, each stage will have different levels activity.

Stage 1: Awareness

This is from the very moment a prospect hears about you and your business - this could be through social media, google/website, or even word of mouth

These people will then take their journey through your sales funnel to either become a client/make a purchase, or not.

Stage 2: Interest

Once a prospect client becomes aware of...

5 reasons you need a CRM to up-level your VA business - Blog Post 2: Scheduling appointments

Uncategorized Nov 19, 2020

Welcome to this series of blog posts, where over 5 days we'll be deep diving into the reasons WHY you need a CRM to up-level your VA business!

Today is our second day & we are covering scheduling appointments using a CRM!

If you missed yesterdays post you can read it here

As I mentioned above, this is the second blog detailing the reasons you need a CRM to up-level your VA business!

A CRM system will give you the ability to create a direct booking link that your clients can click into a book an appointment directly into your calendar.

With Zoom integration, this really is such a simple and effective way to manage appointments.

The traditional way of booking appointments can be quite cumbersome and involve a number of back-and-forth communication between you and your clients trying to come up with a time that suits you both, you, the service provider, would then need to manually take down the customer’s information, go into Zoom or however your meeting will take...

5 reasons you need a CRM to up-level your VA business - Blog Post 1: Automated client onboarding

Uncategorized Nov 17, 2020

Welcome to this series of blog posts, where over 5 days we'll be deep diving into the reasons WHY you need a CRM to up-level your VA business!

Today our deep dive is all about automated client onboarding!

Firstly, I just want to say - You'll still need to give your new client your personal time and attention. There's no replacement for that. It's exciting to get to know your new clients, understand their business, hear about their experiences, learn about their family, goals and future dreams but often we fumble through onboarding trying to remember all of the steps to make sure you've ticked everything off - it takes away from being able to actually have these meaningful conversations with your new client.

Nothing says - "this chick knows her stuff" more that a seamless, easy & professional onboarding experience.

As Virtual Assistants to busy business owners and entrepreneurs, it is our job to leave our clients feeling looked after - and that should start right...
