Speaking with Confidence: Messaging That Attracts the Right Clients

If you’ve ever second-guessed how to explain what you actually do especially in a bio, a pitch, or even a casual chat, you’re not alone. Clear, confident messaging is something most virtual assistants and OBMs wrestle with at some point. Because when you wear many hats and genuinely care about serving your clients, it can feel tricky to distil that into a few strong, clear sentences.

But your messaging isn’t just about sounding polished. It’s how you communicate your value and attract the kind of clients who get what you bring to the table. And the good news? It’s a skill you can build. Starting today.

Stop Listing Tasks, Start Showing Value

When we talk about our services, it’s tempting to rattle off a list of what we can do - inbox management, systems setup, social media scheduling and more. But most clients aren’t hiring you for the list. They’re hiring you for the result.

What they want to hear is the transformation you offer. Do you help them reclaim their time? Reduce their mental load? Bring structure to their chaos? That’s the message they need to hear.

Think about how you can move from “I manage your calendar” to “I free up your time so you can focus on growing your business.” That small shift changes everything.

The Right Language Helps You Charge What You’re Worth

Generic language leads to generic rates. When your message says “I do a bit of everything,” clients expect to pay accordingly. But when your language communicates confidence and clarity, you naturally position yourself as a specialist. And specialists get paid more.

You don’t have to change what you do. You just need to reframe how you talk about it. Highlight the outcomes. Use words that speak to your client’s priorities, not just your process. You’re not selling hours. You’re selling solutions.

Know Who You’re Speaking To

The clearer you are on who your work is really for, the easier it becomes to speak to them directly. That doesn’t mean you need to niche by industry or only work with clients in a specific field. But it does mean understanding the type of client who values what you offer and treats you like a true partner.

You can start by looking back. Who were your favourite clients? What did they have in common? What made the relationship work so well? That insight is gold. Use it to shape your messaging and set the tone for who you want to attract moving forward.

Don’t Hide Behind “We” When It’s Just You

It might feel tempting to sound bigger, especially when you’re working solo. But clients aren’t necessarily looking for a team. Often, they’re looking for you. Your experience. Your way of working. Your problem-solving.

Owning your solo status and the unique value that comes with it is powerful. You don’t need to pretend to be a full agency to land higher value work. You just need to speak with clarity and confidence about what you do and the difference it makes.

Let Your Messaging Grow With You

Your messaging isn’t set in stone. As your skills evolve and your ideal clients shift, your language should shift too. It’s okay if what you wrote a year ago no longer fits. In fact, that’s a good sign. It means you’re growing.

Trial your new language in conversation. Use it on social posts. See what resonates. When it starts to feel natural, bring it into your website, your proposals and your discovery calls. Messaging isn’t about creating a perfectly worded statement right out of the gate. It’s about finding the words that feel like you, and then practising them until they stick.

When Your Messaging Feels Like You

You don’t need a fancy brand or a perfectly polished pitch to attract dream clients. You just need messaging that reflects your value, aligns with the work you actually want to do, and feels like something you’d naturally say out loud.

Because when your words match your energy, people take notice. The right clients will recognise it. And they’ll know they’ve found the right person for the job.
