Visibility Starts with Small, Brave Steps

This blog was inspired by a conversation with Bec Sands on the Seed to Success podcast. You can listen to the full episode here.

Let’s be honest. Being visible in your business can feel uncomfortable. Especially when you’re juggling a million other things, questioning if you’ve got “enough” experience, or comparing your behind-the-scenes with someone else’s polished highlight reel.

But here’s a gentle reminder. You don’t need to have it all figured out to show up. You just need to start.

Whether you’re dipping your toes into the VA or OBM world, or you’ve been in business a while but still feel a bit wobbly about putting yourself out there, know this. Visibility isn’t about being everywhere or doing everything. It’s about showing up in a way that feels right for you and the clients you want to attract.

That Little Voice Saying “You Need Another Qualification”? You Can Ignore It.

So many women hold themselves back because they think they need more credentials. Another course. A new certification. Maybe a diploma to finally be “ready.” But in most cases? You’re already more qualified than you think.

Lived experience, problem-solving on the fly, managing people, projects, and all the chaos life throws your way that counts. Your value isn’t found in a piece of paper. It’s in the way you show up, the care you bring, and the results you deliver.

If you’re feeling pulled to study because you’re genuinely excited to learn something new, go for it. But if it’s coming from a place of “I’m not enough yet,” pause and ask yourself, “Is this fear speaking?”

Visibility Isn’t About Loud. It’s About Connection.

You don’t have to be the loudest voice in the room to build a powerful presence. Visibility isn’t about being “on” all the time. It’s about creating space for people to get to know you, your values, your style, and how you support your clients.

Start small. Choose one or two platforms where your ideal clients actually hang out. Maybe that’s Instagram. Maybe it’s LinkedIn. Maybe it’s a Facebook group or an in-person networking event. The goal isn’t to be everywhere. It’s to show up consistently in a way that feels aligned.

Your people don’t need perfection. They just need to see you.

For the Quiet Achievers and Deep Feelers

If you’re more introverted or sensitive to energy, the idea of visibility might make you want to hide under a doona and stay there. That’s completely valid. But visibility doesn’t mean you have to turn into someone you’re not.

Think of it like putting on a hat, your visibility hat. It’s still you. Just a different part of you that steps forward for a little while. Then you can take the hat off, recharge, and come back to yourself.

Set boundaries. Batch your content. Block visibility time in your calendar like you would for client work. And reward yourself for showing up – even if it’s with a quiet walk, a hot coffee, or your favourite snack.

In-Person Events Still Matter, Even If They Feel Awkward

There’s power in real connection. Yes, turning up to an event can bring on nerves, especially if you don’t know anyone or your social battery’s running low. But setting a gentle goal, like chatting to just two or three people, can make it feel so much more doable.

Remind yourself that everyone in the room is human. Everyone’s got their own story and just by being there, you’ve done something brave. You’ve shown up.

Keep It Simple. Keep It Real.

The truth is, building a visible brand and business isn’t about secret formulas or overnight success. It’s about relationships. Being real. Doing good work. And showing up in ways that reflect who you are and how you want to support others.

You don’t need to be a content machine. You don’t need a long-winded strategy. A simple one-pager that outlines your goals, your ideal client, and a few consistent actions is more than enough.

And if you ever feel stuck, come back to this. Visibility isn’t about vanity. It’s about helping the right people find you. It’s about connection and trust.

So take a breath. Put on your visibility hat. Start where you are. That’s more than enough.
